Climate and nature design for Browning’s clients

Browning Environmental Communications is an agency for environmental sustainability communications, and we designed for several of its clients. These are four of them.

The work runs from a microsite for the IUCN’s Restoration Barometer to presentations, a newsletter, a case study and print for Verra, the Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market and Carbonplace.

IUCN Restoration Barometer

The IUCN’s Restoration Barometer is a tool used by governments and the private sector to track the progress of their restoration targets.

For the launch of its 2022 report, the brief was a microsite: a high-impact visual website to exemplify and highlight the key parts of the Restoration Barometer, made first for people who are not experts.

Two panels from the microsite: Rebuilding Our Ecosystems, an illustrated landscape labelled with the eight ecosystems, and Benefits for Biodiversity, a world map of species helped by restoration

We designed it as a restoration journey, one scrolling page from beginning the journey to looking to the future. Each section’s photograph comes through a brushstroke, as if it were being restored, beside the Barometer’s radiating lines, and opens into a panel of illustrations, maps and data graphics.

A data graphic for the microsite: 12,863,925 total jobs created through restoration efforts, on navy with orange radiating lines

The scope also took in sharing throughout, translation into the five IUCN languages, the full report to download, and a site as usable on mobile as on desktop.

Verra

Verra had developed the Sustainable Development Verified Impact Standard (SD VISta), a new standard and methodology for measuring a project’s impact across diverse social, economic, and environmental fields. Browning was given an open-ended brief to relaunch the standard.

For SD VISta we designed a case study, on the Tuik Ruch Lew improved cookstove project in Guatemala, and a template for its newsletter, SD VISta Knowledge News & Information. The case study sets the project’s benefits around the wheel of the Sustainable Development Goals.

The Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market

The Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market is an independent governance body for the voluntary carbon market.

The presentation’s theory of change, drawn as one winding line from high integrity to a powerful price signal and lower greenhouse gas emissions

We designed its presentation, with diagrams such as its theory of change, and its business cards. The logo is the Integrity Council’s own.

Carbonplace

Carbonplace is a carbon credit settlement platform, developed by a group of banks.

We designed the presentation for its Series A fundraising, and a card that takes people to carbonplace.com by QR code. The presentation was written for investors, so it stays private.

Browning specialise in environmental communications, and we designed for several of their clients. There was a microsite for the IUCN’s Restoration Barometer, made first for people who aren’t experts, and presentation, newsletter and print design as well. I found it humbling that specialists would bring us climate and nature work.
