An interactive social impact report for Anthony Collins

Anthony Collins Solicitors produce a yearly social impact report as a way to quantify their claim of being a social purpose law firm. They want to be able to showcase the work they do, and the clients they support, to achieve their purpose of improving lives, communities and society. We were invited to help them move away from having a lengthy printed report, and create a more digital publication instead.

To showcase more of the real people and communities that Anthony Collins has helped, we supported the firm in pulling together the design of the print and digital assets, photography and imaging, and printing to ensure that everything was ready for launch. This included an initial sitemap and wireframe exercise to fully scope out the work ahead.

Stories, on screen and in print

In print, a portrait toned in the firm's teal has a quote set large across it. The bespoke mailer opens on the report's cover, tower blocks in black and white with HOPE painted on a wall in teal, and inside it carries a welcome and a breakdown of who the firm worked with during 2018/2019.

Researching with a fresh approach

The wireframes mapped the report on desktop and on phone: the opening screen, a page for each part of the firm's work with its case studies, and pages of key figures.

Presenting the numbers

Anthony Collins’ social impact is vast and impressive. However, they did not want to be perceived as an imperious organisation, but more of an entity that appeals to everyone, from private clients to corporates and local authorities, to a company that can help bring charitable ideas to life through incorporation, to monies recovered from catastrophic events. Presenting that information in a friendly manner that was also professional was key.

The report is in four parts: Introduction and Key Findings, Improving Lives, Improving Communities and Improving Society. Each has a colour of its own.

The key findings of Improving Lives as a cluster of green and black circles, from £36.8m of assets managed for 126 deputy clients to 163 vulnerable people given a voice

Improving Lives and Improving Communities each open with a short statement from the firm, then their key findings as a cluster of circles, every figure with a few words to say what it counts.

Further down the page come the stories: a film, then case studies, each with its own photograph and a link through to the full story.

Anthony Collins invited us to help turn their social impact report from a long printed document into something digital, friendly but still professional. For me the heart of it was the stories of the real people and communities the firm has helped, told through film and photography. Helping to tell them was a privilege.
